Bite-Size Bible Study for Busy People

Luke 8
Faith in the Storm

Read: Luke 8:22-25

One day, he and his disciples entered a boat, and he told them, “Let’s go to the other side of the lake.” They set out, and as they sailed, he fell asleep. Suddenly, a fierce windstorm swept down on the lake, and the boat began taking on dangerous water. They woke him, crying, “Master, we’re about to die!” He woke up, rebuked the wind and the surging waters, and suddenly everything was calm. He asked them, “Where is your faith?” Filled with fear, they marveled and asked each other, “Who is this that even the wind and water obey him?”

Explanation

As the storm intensifies, the disciples quickly shift from confidence to fear, revealing how fragile faith can be when circumstances change. Jesus’s presence remains constant, yet His apparent silence unsettles them. When He finally speaks, the storm is stilled, revealing both His authority over creation and the disparity between His power and their trust.

The question He asks is not about the storm but about their faith. This moment demonstrates that faith is not measured in calm conditions but in how we respond when control is lost. Jesus is not absent in the storm; He is sovereign within it.
