Bite-Size Bible Study for Busy People

Holy Week:
Easter Sunday

Read: Luke 24:1-11

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they (the women who had come with Jesus from Galilee and some others came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. They entered and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were greatly perplexed by this, behold, two men stood beside them in dazzling clothing. Becoming terrified, they bowed their faces to the ground.

The men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?”

They remembered his words, returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now they were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James. The other women with them relayed these things to the apostles. These words seemed to them to be nonsense, and they didn’t believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping and looking in, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he departed to his home, wondering what had happened.

Explanation

The resurrection challenges expectation with reality: the tomb is empty, yet the first reaction is confusion, not certainty. The women are reminded that Jesus had already spoken of this, showing that faith often develops not from new information, but from remembering what God has already said.

The resurrection is not just an event to observe—it’s a truth to understand and believe. What appeared as loss is revealed as victory. God’s promises are not delayed; they are fulfilled, often beyond what we expected.

A question for today

What is God showing me about remembering His promises?

A sentence to take into the day

Jesus is alive. God’s promises are fulfilled, even when I struggle to see it.

One thing to do today

Recall one promise of God today and consciously trust it in your situation.
