Bite-Size Bible Study for Busy People

Luke 2
Waiting on God

Read: Luke 2:25–32

Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law, then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,

 “Now you are releasing your servant, Master,
    according to your word, in peace;
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
a light for revelation to the nations,
    and the glory of your people Israel.”

Explanation

Simeon embodies faithful waiting anchored, not in circumstances but in God’s promise. When he sees Jesus, he recognises what others might overlook: God’s salvation has arrived. His response shows that fulfilment is found not in prolonging life but in seeing God’s word fulfilled.

Jesus is not only Israel’s hope but also light for all nations, extending salvation beyond expected boundaries. This moment broadens the scope of God’s plan and clarifies its purpose. Faith perceives what God is doing, even when it seems small, and responds with trust, worship, and readiness to rest in His faithfulness.

A question for today

What is God showing me about trusting His timing?

A sentence to take into the day

God fulfils His promises in His time.

One thing to do today

Wait patiently in one area today, choosing trust instead of rushing ahead.
