The Lord’s Supper
Read : Luke 22:14-23
They went and prepared the Passover.
When the moment arrived, he sat down with the twelve apostles. He told them, “I have eagerly looked forward to sharing this Passover with you before I endure suffering. For I assure you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in God’s Kingdom.” He took a cup, gave thanks, and said, “Take this and share it among yourselves, for I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until God’s Kingdom comes.”
He took bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it and handed it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Then, following the supper, he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. Look, the hand of the one who betrays me is with me on the table. The Son of Man is going as planned, but woe to the one who betrays him!”
They started to wonder among themselves who would be the one to do this thing.
Explanation
Jesus intentionally anchors this moment in Passover, then redefines it around Himself. The bread and cup are no longer just symbols of past deliverance, but of a present and greater redemption—His body given and His blood poured out.
This establishes the new covenant, where forgiveness is secured not through repeated sacrifice, but by His once-for-all offering. Yet even at this sacred moment, betrayal is present at the table, reminding us that outward participation does not equal inward loyalty.
Jesus remains sovereign, fully aware, and fully willing. The invitation is clear: remember, receive, and respond in faith.

A sentence to take into the day

One thing to do today
Pause today and deliberately thank Jesus for His sacrifice upon the cross.
