Bite-Size Bible Study for Busy People
Holy Week
Palm Sunday
Read : Luke 19:28-40
Having said these things, he went on his way, heading up to Jerusalem.
When he approached Bethsphage and Bethany, at the Mount called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples, saying, “Go into the village on the other side. As you enter, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ tell them, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
Those who were sent went and found everything just as he had said. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked, “Why are you untying the colt?” They replied, “The Lord needs it.” They brought the colt to Jesus, threw their cloaks on it, and Jesus sat on them.
As he went along, they spread their cloaks on the road. Nearing the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began rejoicing and praising God loudly for all the miracles they had seen, crying out, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
Some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would cry out.” out.”
Explanation
Jesus enters Jerusalem as King, yet not in the manner the crowd expects. He arrives in humility, fulfilling prophecy while quietly redefining power and authority. The people respond with praise, but their understanding is limited: welcoming Him for what they hope He will do, rather than for who He truly is.
Even so, creation itself bears witness to His identity, showing that His kingship is not dependent on human recognition. This moment calls for a deeper response: not just enthusiasm, but submission. To recognise Jesus rightly is to receive Him fully as King, on His terms, not ours.
A question for today
What is God showing me about how I recognise and respond to Jesus as King?
A sentence to take into the day
Jesus is King, whether I acknowledge Him or not.
One thing to do today
Consciously submit one decision today to Jesus’ authority as King.
