Bite-Size Bible Study for Busy People

Holy Week
The Widow’s Mite

Read : Luke 21:1-4

He looked up and saw the wealthy people putting their gifts into the treasury. He noticed a certain poor widow casting in two small brass coins. He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them, for all these put in gifts for God from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she had to live on.”

Explanation

Jesus contrasts outward generosity with true sacrifice, showing that value is measured not by amount, but by cost and devotion. The widow gives from lack, not surplus, revealing that genuine worship is expressed through wholehearted trust rather than visible contribution.

A question for today

God measures generosity by sacrifice, not quantity. What is God revealing to me about my giving?

A sentence to take into the day

God values the heart behind what I give.

One thing to do today

Give something today – whether it’s time, attention, or resources – that costs me to do it.
